Health

Health

The organization uses its resources mainly Health Care Centers existing in rural areas for spreading awareness on health care measures. The Nurses in the centers have taken responsibility to reach out every single family in connection with achieving the motto - HEALTH FIRST.

Mother and Child Health Care

The organization has started its interventions in late 70’s giving focus on mother and child health care. The gender inequality was direct hit on health of mother and child. Lack of health care education, infrastructure and superstitions resulted as increase in mortality and morbidity.

The Government has launched several programs, among them the Jharkhand Rural Health Mission open platforms for married women to avail health services. However, in tribal areas, the situation was very pathetic due to illiteracy. Women thought that early registration was not necessary. They also believed that a healthy looking woman would not have any complications during her pregnancy. Lack of knowledge and misconceptions about correct colostrums feeding, cord care and breastfeeding practices were observed at the individual and community level.

The organization always utilizes Health Care Centers for promoting health awareness classes during SHG meetings where women gathered for meeting.  Focus was given on strengthening of Village Health Nutrition Day by mobilizing women and children with Adolescent to avail health services. The counseling of pregnant mother and family members with health care trainings transformed into positive action.

·         Increased in registration

·         Institutional Delivery

·         Post-Partum Care

·         Neonatal Health care – exclusive breastfed for six months or more

·         Child Health – Routine Immunization

Adolescent Health - Improving Adolescent Health is an emerging vital issue for the age group 10-19 yrs of boys and girls in Jharkhand. To facilitate a smoother transition from adolescence to adulthood, it is necessary to promote the creation of safe platforms and a facilitative environment where adolescents can participate in decision making on issues affecting their lives. It is widely believed that by empowering adolescents with proper knowledge they can adopt positive practices; access preventive, curative and protective services; and enhance their skills and participation in local governance. At the same time, it is crucial to engage with community gate keepers who can promote adolescent participation in various decisions taken at individual, family and community levels.

The organization believes in holistic development of the society. It has designed interventions together with Adolescents to address issues like sexual and reproductive rights, child marriage, out of school adolescent, malnutrition and anemia, menstrual hygiene and consequences of substance use.   6508 households having 4466 Adolescent Girls and 4243 Adolescent boys are part program.

The implementation of the program has successfully established a linkage between government functionaries, villagers and actual beneficiaries. Lack of knowledge about benefits to the pregnant women, lactating mother, adolescent girls from Anganwadi Centre on Village Health Nutrition Day, could not mobilize the beneficiaries’ to take up the services. Frequent meetings with the members of Self Help Groups and Adolescent groups, increased the participants during Village Health Nutrition Day. Iron Folic Acid Tablet now gets consumed as per target provided.

Malaria Control Program

Reduction and control of incidents of Malaria has been always one of the main concerns of Catholic Charities Jamshedpur, for it is working in the malaria prone area. It has strengthened the network with the Health Care Centers to outreach the diagnosis and treatment services in the remote villages of East-West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan. The organization has implemented this program in 170 villages of three districts East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan. This program include following objectives:

·         Human- Vector control and hence transmission of malaria will be minimized in targeted villages.

·         Tribal and Social minimized population will have access to the appropriate malaria diagnostic, treatment and referral services in their villages.

·         Sustaining the services of Adequate, Technical, Competent and Appropriate manpower at village level for the prevention and treatment of malaria.

·         Malaria prevention and treatment through herbal medicine will be know by the people
